GOGOSHA OPTIQUE: KJELD GOGOSHA-CLARK’S SHADES OF THE DAY: Handmade RVSbyV …Easy like a Monday morning.

Julia Gogosha-Clark started wearing glasses at age 5. And by 15, her increasing affinity for glasses lead her parents to make the decision that if she wanted them, she would have to buy them. And buy them she did. Julia began working as an optician at age 18. She loved it right away. It perfectly suited her skillset and interests. âIt mixed fashion, design, medicine, mathâ¦and a healthy dose of nerd.â Her travels in the optical world landed her on Sunset Blvd in March 2008, where she opened Gogosha Optiqueâs Silverlake flagship store. And Gogoshaâs second retail location opened on West 3rd Street in May 2011.
Glasses arenât just for your face, they are for the center of your face. Something we need to remember, when frame shopping. Solids or more basic colors make sense with busier outfits, patterns and brighter colors with more basic outfits and color schemes. Julia admits to loving shoes and clothes. But she loves glasses more. âIf you have a great pair of glasses and a great pair of shoes, you can cheat a little.â

Julia makes you want to want glasses. And she has a lot of them to make you want. Her oldest pair stems back to 1997 and she has given many a frame away, along the way. With that, she currently owns roughly 130 pairs, 114 of which are currently accounted for. And all of which, she fashionably and cleverly keeps in a cool vintage dental cabinet. And, how have glasses kept her interest all these years? âThey are always changing. Technology is always changing. Style is always changing.â

From basic shapes and colors to unlikely colors and patterns, Julia and Gogosha have it all. Gogosha is stocked full of modern reinterpreted vintage style frames, perfect for a perfectly modern vintage look, and modern frames, perfect for a perfectly modern look. Gogosha carries frames from designer favorites like Theo, Theiry Lasry, Orgreen, Cutler and Gross, Oliver Goldsmith, Barton Parreira, Salt, Mykita, Kirk Originals, and Anne et Valentin.

âGet a vintage couch, not vintage glasses,â Julia suggests when it comes to vintage thrift store frame finds. Acetate doesnât age well. And vintage frames canât be fitted. And when it comes down to it, a nice set of lenses should be put into a nice set of frames. That, and taking care of your glasses are the best recipes for long lasting glasses.

âYou can love a frame, but it can not love you back.â Thatâs where the Gogogha team comes in. You can pick a few frames you like, list a few styles and colors that appeal to you. And with that, face shape, features, prescription, and a little feel for your personality and style, Julia and her team will pull a variety of frames for you to try.

âOver 50 perfect of customers leave with frames they werenât looking for, but they loveâ¦.Thatâs how we built our reputation, by giving people exactly what they never knew they wanted.â
And on top of all that, Gogoshaâs lenses and frames come with a 2 year warranty.
Come get exactly what you never knew you wanted at Gogosha Optique (8238 West 3rd Street.)

Some people would argue that Los Angeles isnât a great city for shopping, but I beg to differ. I simply adore shopping in this relaxed city, which has fabulous department stores, shops from virtually all the worldâs top luxury brands (from Armani to Zegna) and a plethora of well-edited boutiques to find â really find! â truly unique gifts, design items, and clothing.
In LA, I usually begin on West 3rd Street, which has plenty of boutiques that are all about a smart and stylish retailer and their concise (in other words, wonderfully efficient) edit of items. I love SATINE, where I can always find something from one of my favorite tastemaker designers (like Balenciaga and Isabel Marant). I also always pop into MILK â for designer goodies as well as unique gifts, jewelry and books â and EM & CO, which carries terrific clothing from hard-to-find designers. HILLARY RUSH is great for impulse purchases to wear right away â like J Brand jeans and Zimmermann bathing suits â and I like stores like PLASTICA and HAUS INTERIOR for their quirky home items. And I canât go to LA without picking up a new pair of sunglasses, and for that I go to GOGOSHA, which has a marvelous selection of designer frames you wonât see elsewhere and super-chic vintage pairs as well.

GOGOSHA OPTIQUE: Frames of the Day: RVS x IZNIK FOUNDATION: Limited Editions for a limited time only.
Vidal Erkohen is the V in RVS by V. He’s teamed up with an unlikely but brilliant bedfellow, the Iznik Foundation, which is dedicated to reviving Ottoman quartz tile-making, a millennia-old art form that was lost for hundreds of years.
Erkohen’s handmade glasses are known for their vivid colors and signature styling; the Iznik Collection brings a taste of Islamic tile to the world of couture accessories. With each item hand-inspected by Erkohen himself — the collaboration is limited to only 20 pieces of each of the seven sun and optical styles.
Gogosha Optique is excited and honored to be amongst the dozen lucky stockist worldwide to carry this limited edition collection. As always, we only carry one of each, making the selection even more special for the lucky final owners of these spectacular frames.
